Our Client
Birmingham Race Action Partnership is a Birmingham based equalities think tank and registered charity giving advice and support to both private businesses and local government.
Objectives
Funding has been secured from the Equality and Human Rights Commission for the production of a free quarterly magazine publication to be distributed via Birmingham Central Libraries. Speak Out is a community discussion magazine with articles exploring the lives and issues faced by Birmingham’s diverse cultural population. The layout is required to have consistency from issue to issue but contain bespoke designed and visually appealing layouts.
Our Response
We worked closely with the editorial team at each stage of the project from defining the magazine structure to production of articles and proofing. Several variations of the regular page features and logos were initially produced to provide solid context to the decision making process. Once the core page ‘furniture’ and branding was agreed the framework template files were created.
Whilst the articles dealt with serious issues it was important the magazine did not come across as a ‘dry’ read. The visual layout style is akin to a Sunday supplement magazine with bespoke layouts, single to four page articles, bold typography and well thought out imagery.
